17 Basic Makeup Products That You Should Have In Your Makeup Kit
17 Basic makeup Products that every college woman should have
Whether you’re a makeup newbie or have been experimenting with cosmetics for years, it’s important to have a set of makeup essentials that will allow you to create an everyday look that works for you. After acquiring the makeup basics, it’s much easier to add fun or trendy basic makeup products to your collection and incorporate them into your beauty looks.
Makeup basics – For Face:

1- Facial primer
While some people don’t believe that a face primer is necessary, We consider it a vital step in makeup routine.
The exact effects of a face primer on skin and makeup can vary, but in general, its main purpose is to keep skin smooth and makeup fresh during the day.
No matter what your skin type is, there is a foundation for you, whether you are looking for a formula to control oil and / or acne, hydrate, smooth uneven texture, correct color, etc.
2- Foundation
Foundation is probably the hardest part of your basic makeup products to get right, as you not only have to think about the type of coverage you want (i.e. sheer / natural, medium or full), but also your type of skin and shades.
If this is your first time using foundation or you are not sure which type / shade is right for you, We recommend that you go to the nearest Sephora, MAC, or department store and have your makeup artist help you choose one that work for you. It adapts to the skin and meets your needs. It’s also a good idea to ask for a sample if you want to see what the formula looks like on your skin before purchasing.
3- BB Cream
Personally, We prefer a BB cream as a regular base, as it seems more natural to me. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something with skincare benefits like hydration or prep (some BB creams contain a foundation).
Also, if you’re new to the makeup world, a good BB cream is a better place to start than foundation, because it looks lighter on skin, is hard to overdo, and can be applied with your fingers.
One of the main disadvantages of BB creams is that they generally come in limited shade ranges and are not suitable for dark skin.
4- Concealer
If you have acne, dark circles or any type of discoloration, concealer is a must.
Concealers come in combinations of full and sheer coverage, and the type you choose depends on how much you are trying to cover.
When choosing a concealer for acne and / or discoloration, look for a shade as close to your BB foundation / cream as possible for a more natural appearance.
Dark circles are a bit trickier as there is a lot of variation in their tone and how they look on different skin tones, but in general, it is a good idea to use a peach or pink concealer to disguise them.

5- Blush
Wearing blush can have a huge impact on your overall appearance, and We personally don’t recommend to leave it out of your basic makeup product. The blush is especially necessary if you are using a foundation with more opaque coverage, which can sometimes make your skin look a bit flat.
Blush comes in powder, gel, and cream formulations, with powder being the most popular. Lately, however, cream and gel blushes have also become very popular.
When choosing a blush color, choose something that will give you a natural blush. Regardless of your skin tone, be careful not to go overboard with glitter or use a very heavy hand when applying, as these things can make you look like a clown.
In general, pink and peach tones work best on light to medium skin, while mauve, purple, and maroon tones work best on darker skin tones.
6- Highlighter
Speaking of highlights, you couldn’t leave the highlighter off this list!
Like many other basic makeup products, highlighter comes in different forms: powder, cream, liquid, stick, and hybrid powder / cream. Each of these forms has its own unique benefits, but for beginners I recommend the powder or the bar as they are the easiest to work with.
The obvious way to apply eyeliner is to lightly apply it along the bridge of the nose, above the cheekbones, cupid’s bow, and just below the eyebrows.
You can even multitask and use your highlighter as an eyeshadow!
Finally, just like finding the perfect foundation shade, finding the right shade of highlighter depends on your specific skin tone and undertones, so it’s a good idea to try different shades in person if possible.
7- Bronzer
If you are trying to get a sunny look, using the correct grade of bronzer is essential.
We recommend not using a shade one or two shades darker than your natural skin tone, and gently covering it all over the high points of your face for a healthy glow, or just in the hollows of your cheeks (below where you put your blush ) for a more chiseled look.
Either way, be sure to use a light hand and blend well!
As for shimmer and shine, that depends on the rest of your appearance – if all the other products you are using on your face are matte and you want to add some shine, go for something with a little shimmer. But, if you’re already using other glossy products, stick with a matte formula to avoid excessive shine.
8- Setting Spray/powder
The spray / powder setting works as a face primer to keep makeup in place throughout the day
There are different combinations depending on the type of finish you want (e.g. matte, radiant, etc.) and the skincare benefits, if any, that you would like to get from the setting spray / powder (e.g. hydration, oil absorption, etc.).). If you want your makeup to last, don’t skip this step!
Makeup Basics – Eyes:

9- Eye primer
Not only should a good eye primer or eye cream prevent eye makeup from slipping, fading, and wrinkling, it should also have a formula that keeps colors as true to life as they should be throughout the day.It is a very important component of basic makeup products that you should have.
10- Eye Shadow
Aside from highlighters, eyeshadow is my favorite makeup product, simply because it comes in different colors and finishes, and it can be used in so many different ways!
We prefer to buy individual eye shadows over palettes. However, if you didn’t have similar individual shades yet, you would definitely consider purchasing one of the Urban Decay Naked Palettes, all of which are great for beginners.
11- Mascara
Mascara has a magical way of bringing the look of your eyes together and comes in countless different formulas that lengthen, thicken and curl your lashes.
The black is fine for most people, but if you have very light colored lashes, you can opt for a brown mascara for a more natural look. Including Mascara in your basic makeup products is a must.
12- Eyeliner
Eyeliner, can also add a bit more that is needed to make your eyes look great.
While black eyeliner is usually a staple, consider trying brown or taupe if you have lighter skin.
There are countless ways to apply eyeliner, but our favorite is to simply draw a thin line on the lash line and highlight it with a glide from the outside of my eyes.
You can also use eyeliner to line the waterline if you want your lashes to appear thicker. In fact, there are pens and eyeliners made specifically for this sensitive area.
Finally, if you want to try liquid eyeliner but are afraid of wasting your time, we recommend first lining your eyes with eyeshadow or an eyeliner, and then go over that line with liquid eyeliner.
13- Eyebrow product
If you are looking to improve your brow game, there are many different brow products to make it really special.
Brow products come in different formulations, including pencil, powder, mascara, pomade, wax, and gel, and the one you choose will depend on your needs.
Whether you’re opting for a natural look or something more dramatic, be sure to use a light hand and slowly gain strength to avoid the artificial look. Plus, the dramatic fades and sharp edges can be a bit too much for real life, so when in doubt, follow the shape of your natural brows.
Makeup Basics – Lips:
14- Lip gloss
Wear lip gloss when you’re in a rush, can’t reach a mirror (it’s hard to spoil), or when the rest of your look is more dramatic and requires more subtle lips. Inclusion of Lip gloss in the list of Basic makeup products is a must.

15- Lipstick
There is no denying that lipstick is going through an important time right now: whether you are looking for a liquid formula or a bullet; Glossy, satin or matte finish, there is definitely a lipstick that will meet your needs!
To begin with, We recommend starting with a color close to the natural color of your lips, since it is the easiest to apply and remove.
Once you get used to it, it’s good to find an all-red classic shoe that you can wear to class or for special occasions. Try a glossy formula, a lip balm for a smoother look, or a matte formula for a shimmering look.
Makeup Basics – Tools:
16- Brushes
Be sure to look for high-quality brushes from brands like MAC and Sephora Collection, as they should last for years with regular cleaning and proper storage.
Brushes to look for include a face brush (for applying foundation), a small, thin angled brush (for applying blush and / or bronzer to cheeks), a fan brush (for applying highlighter), and a brush. for soft powders (for finishing). touches), powder or bronzer all over the face) and a basic brush to blend eyeshadow.
17- Applicators
For other types of applicators, We sometimes like to use the original Beauty blender instead of a makeup brush to apply the foundation, because we love the finish it gives.
