A toner is one of the most underrated skincare products. It should actually be one of the most important steps in your skincare routine. It is a part of the CTM routine that every girl should follow.
You must be wondering why it should be a necessary step in your skincare routine. Toners are used to remove any excess dirt, oil or makeup residue. It also helps to balance the pH levels of your skin. It contains humectants that make it act as a moisturizer.
The amazing thing is that you don’t need to spend any money to buy one when you can easily make one at home using simple ingredients found in your kitchen.
It is better to figure out your skin tone before you proceed to make a homemade toner.

A. Homemade Toner For Oily Skin
Toners work best especially for two skin types including acne-prone and oily skin. Toners help in absorbing the excess oils. It will help to prevent the clogging of your pores. They are best for women who use heavy makeup and have oily skin type.
1. Rose Water Toner
Roses are a really special ingredient that makes your skin look and feel beautiful. Rosewater has been used as a beauty ingredient by the Indians for ages ago. Rosewater soothes the inflamed skin and prevents dull and tired skin. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Boil 5-6 dried rose petals, 1 cup of water in a boiler for about 5-8 minutes keeping it covered.
Step 2: After the water cools down, pour the rose water into a spray bottle.
Step 3: Put in the fridge and use it whenever you want.
2. Green Tea Toner
Green tea leaves are rich in antioxidants. It will help to lock in the moisture and remove any excess oils. It contains polyphenols that destroy any free radicals and help create a youthful complexion. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Add 2 tea bags, a cup of water in a pan and boil on a medium flame.
Step 2: Turn off the flame after about 15 minutes and let it cool down.
Step 3: Pour it into a bottle.
Step 4: Pour a little bit of this toner on a cotton pad and pat it on your skin after cleansing your face.
3. Neem Toner
Neem leaves have so many amazing medicinal benefits. It is a fact that taking a bath in neem water removes itchiness caused due to chickenpox. It is perfect for oily skin and helps reduce breakouts. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Add 6-7 neem leaves and a cup of water into a pan and boil the leaves.
Step 2: Turn the flame off after about 30 minutes and let it cool down.
Step 3: Now pour it into a bottle and put in the refrigerator. Use it chilled.
B. Homemade Toner For Dry Skin
Toners should be used as a priority by people with dry skin as it moisturizes and hydrates your skin. The ingredients used to make these toners require a thick, creamy texture to give your skin a good finish.
1. Coconut Water & Milk Toner
If you have any blemishes, then this one is the perfect toner for you. Coconut milk is rich in vitamin C and antifungal properties, and milk has lactic acid that kills all the microbes. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Pour a cup of coconut water and half a cup of milk in a bowl. Stir well
Step 2: Pour into a bottle and put it in the refrigerator.
Step 3: Pour a small amount on a cotton ball and wipe your face. Leave it on.
2. Rice Water Toner
Rice water is perfect for dull and dry skin. It helps to brighten up the complexion and reduces any blemishes. It is easy to make toner which hardly requires effort from your side. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Add 1 cup of rice and add water to it.
Step 2: Stir it properly and don’t stop until the water looks cloudy.
Step 3: Now, strain the water and pour it into a bottle.
Step 4: Pour a little on a cotton pad and put on your face.
3. Tulsi Leaves Toner
It is definitely one of the best homemade toners. It helps to treat your acne and reduce any possibility of a skin infection. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Add 7-8 tulsi leaves and a cup of water and let it boil on a medium flame for about 20 minutes.
Step 2: Let it cool down and pour it in a spray bottle and put it in the fridge.
Step 3: After washing your face, spray a little on your skin and use a cotton pad to wipe off any excesses.
C. Homemade Toner For Sensitive Skin
People with a sensitive skin type really need to take care of their skin properly. They even need to make sure that they use the ingredients suitable for their skin. If any of these ingredients cause you to pick at your skin, then stop using those ingredients. Before you make your own homemade toner, ask your dermatologist if it is okay to use it.
1. Tomato Toner
Tomato is perfect for large pores and dull-looking skin. If you need to remove tan, use a homemade tone made using tomatoes. With time, it will help to better the texture of your skin. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Add the pulp of 1 tomato, 1 tsp lemon juice and water in a bowl.
Step 2: Stir well and pour it into a spray bottle.
Step 3: Put in the refrigerator and shake it before using it.
2. Aloe Gel Toner
Aloe gel is known for its cooling properties and is best for irritated and inflamed skin. You can either use it alone or along with other ingredients. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Add 2 tbsp of aloe gel, 3 drops of orange juice in a bowl and mix well.
Step 2: Pour into a bottle and store in the refrigerator.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar Toner
Using diluted apple cider vinegar will improve your skin texture. It contains acetic acid and alpha-hydroxy acid and helps to exfoliate your skin and deeply cleanses the pores. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Add 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar and a cup of freshly brewed green tea into a bowl. Mix well.
Step 2: Pour in a spray bottle and store in the refrigerator.
D. Homemade Toner For Combination Skin
If you have oiliness especially on your forehead, nose, and chin, then you have a combination skin type. It is a little tough to prepare a toner for this skin type as two different skin types need different treatments.
1. Glycerin Toner
Glycerin moisturizes the skin and helps make it moist, supple and soft. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Add 1 cup of water, 1 tbsp glycerin and 2-3 drops of lemon juice into a bowl.
Step 2: Stir it well and pour into a bottle.
Step 3: Shake well before use!
2. Chamomile Toner
Combination skin is prone to acne and inflammation and that is why you should use chamomile in your toner. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Pour freshly brewed rose water into a bowl and add 2-3 drops of chamomile oil.
Step 2: Stir it and pour into a spray bottle.
3. Cucumber Toner
Using Cucumber water hydrates and soothes your skin. It makes your skin glow and protects it from the UV rays. Follow these steps to make the toner:
Step 1: Chop cucumber into fine pieces.
Step 2: Toss it into the mixer and add 1 cup of water and a spoon of aloe gel.
Step 3: Pour the mix into a bottle and store in the fridge for future use.
