The most relaxing day is when you do absolutely nothing but lie in bed, watch a great show on Netflix, and apply a face mask that works wonders for your skin. Even without cucumbers on your eyes, you will feel refreshed after a day like this.

For oily and acne-prone skin, acids like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide work well, but today we wanted to introduce you to a much cheaper ingredient: Bentonite Clay.

What is Bentonite Clay?

It is a special type of clay mask made from volcanic ash and used for centuries to detoxify and heal the skin and body. It is a mineral rich clay that contains calcium, magnesium and iron. It was previously used medicinally and ingested to eliminate impurities and toxins from the system.

Benefits of bentonite clay

Get rid of excess oil

Your oily skin will thank you as soon as you add this ingredient to your skincare routine because it really absorbs everything. It is also ideal for those with acne-prone skin.

Minimizes the appearance of enlarged pores

This is certainly temporary, but once the ingredient absorbs excess oil and dirt from the pores, they look smaller.

It has anti-inflammatory properties

If you are prone to redness and rashes, this is the ingredient to try. Calm the skin and control inflammation.

It has anti-aging benefits

Another benefit of bentonite clay is that the minerals it contains help protect the skin from free radicals, environmental stressors, and UV rays. This, in turn, slows the onset of the first signs of aging.

Prevents blackheads

Thanks to this deep cleansing of your pores, it also keeps them open. It is a natural way to prevent blackheads from appearing.

How to use this ingredient

There are many ways to use this ingredient and we list a few:

For skin cleansing: mix bentonite clay with water or rose water and mix it into a paste. Apply it and let it act until it dries. Rinse with warm water and you will get perfectly clean skin.

To prevent blackheads: mix it with a few drops of jojoba oil and apply it to areas prone to blackheads such as the nose and T-zone and let it dry. Rinse and repeat once a week.

To revitalize the skin: mix bentonite powder with matcha powder and add tea tree oil. Keep it for 15-20 minutes, then rinse it off.

What to keep in mind when using bentonite clay

As with any other ingredient, it is important to perform a patch test before using the product. Another thing to note is that it may look dry and therefore suitable for people with oily and acne-prone skin, but it may not be the ideal solution for people with dry skin. You should also be careful when using it with other acne fighting ingredients like retinol etc.
