Ghazal Alagh started Mamaearth, a skin care company, after her search for non-toxic, chemical-free skin care products for her son left her depressed. She then founded Mamaearth, which in a short time became India’s leading company in the field of baby care, mother’s care and skin care products. Mamaearth entered the coveted unicorn club in December 2021, having raised around $80 million. With her personal net worth of $17 million, she was also seen as a shark on the popular entrepreneurship-based reality show Shark Tank in 2021.
2. Meenal Arora
Meenal co-founded the future Shemford Futuristic School in 2009. With over 16 years of experience in education, Meenal has been instrumental in establishing over 625 pre-schools and public schools in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. This commitment and dedication of her towards it, she has been honored with the title of “Most Schools launched in the shortest time”.
Meenal, an author and child-rearing expert, believes that children are kinesthetic learners and learn best when taught by practically shown, rather than simply read to.
3. Suchi Mukherjee
While on maternity leave, Suchi Mukherjee, while reading a magazine, became fascinated with a piece of jewellery that she wanted so much. But there was no way she could get her hands on it, and thus the idea of a women’s lifestyle platform was born. Limeroad was launched in 2011 and has won many awards such as “Coolest Startup of the Year” and “Unicorn Start-up Award”. It is one of the leading social shopping sites in the country.
4. Mani Pavitra
This serial entrepreneur started out as an orthodontist and was helping set up dental clinics in Hyderabad in 2010. She then started her own Dentist & Dontist brand in 2012. But she analyzed that there is not much available knowledge on pregnancy education in her city. As a result, she became Lamaze certified and started “Pampered Moms.” Her brand covers pregnancy exercises, breastfeeding advice, and even postnatal exercises. She also operates “Pampered kids”, a children’s play area, a birthday party, and an activity center.
5. Shruti Ajmera Reddy
After realizing that almost 95% of baby food brands contain toxic and harmful ingredients or materials like lead, Shruti started Hapup, a new company that offers baby food mixes, which are made without any chemicals, no preservatives, and even without sugar or salt. They are made with regional ingredients and are naturally processed. While baby food can also be made at home, patience and planning are required. That’s when Hapup helps provide them with nourishing and nutritive food.
