Tips On How To Maintain Good Eyesight

Your eyes are an important component of your overall health. While vision loss is not a normal part of ageing, it is critical to protect our vision, even if you currently have good eye health. It’s normal to experience vision changes as we age, such as difficulty distinguishing colours, adjusting to glare, and near or farsightedness. There are, however, precautions you can take to keep your eyes as healthy as possible and help prevent vision loss later in life. With that said here are a few tips on how you can maintain good eyesight.

Eating Healthy Balanced Diet

As part of your healthy diet, include foods high in antioxidants, such as Vitamins A and C, such as leafy green vegetables and fish. Many foods, particularly fatty fish like salmon, contain essential omega-3 fatty acids like fish, that are beneficial to the health of the macula, the part of the eye responsible for central vision.

Sunglasses

Sun exposure can damage your eyes and raise your risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. To protect your eyes and maintain good vision, wear sunglasses that block out 99 to 100 percent of UV-A and UV-B radiation. The best way to keep your eyes healthy is to invest in a good pair of sunglasses that will protect your eyes from UV rays from the sun.

Getting Adequate Sleep

A good night’s sleep also has several advantages, such as promoting growth and strengthening our immune systems. Spending a lot of time on the computer can make your eyes look tired. If you want good eyesight try the 20-20-20 rule to reduce eye strain: Every 20 minutes, look away for 20 seconds from about 20 feet in front of you. You’ll also notice a difference when you get enough sleep. You’ll look great, perform well at home or at work, and getting enough sleep will improve the health of your eyes.

Do Not Touch

To begin with, avoid unnecessary eye contact; however if you must scratch, do so with clean hands. Many germs and bacteria exist on your hands and can enter your eyes, causing infections such as bacterial conjunctivitis. Rubbing one’s eyes is one way people catch cold virus germs. Take precautions to avoid eye infections if you wear contact, wash your hands thoroughly before inserting or removing your contact lenses. Also, follow the instructions on how to clean them properly and replace them as needed.
